Privacy Policy
Effective October 5, 2026
Chess Stops collects less than most apps, on purpose. We don't sell your data, we don't track you
across other sites, and our venue analytics are aggregate-only — built so we can count
footfall without knowing who you are.
What we collect
- Account: your email and password (the password is stored only as a salted PBKDF2 hash,
never in plain text) so your profile and settings sync across devices.
- Profile: anything optional you choose to add (display name, rating, photo).
- Venue analytics: coarse, aggregate activity — visit counts and listing views —
never who visited. The data model drops the link to you while keeping the count.
- Feedback: messages you send us, with your IP kept only for spam triage.
- Location: your approximate location is used on your device to sort nearby stops.
We don't store your location history on our servers.
What we do not do
- We don't sell or rent personal data.
- We don't track you across other websites or apps.
- We don't tie venue insights back to individuals — they're aggregate by design.
Third parties
- Map tiles: Esri. Hosting: Cloudflare.
- Listing source links point to public third-party directories we cite for freshness.
Your controls
- Profile visibility: Everyone, Players only, or Hidden — set in Settings.
- Deletion: delete your account and data from Settings, or email us to request it.
Children
Chess Stops is not directed to children under 13, and accounts are limited to users 13 and older.
