Terms of Service
Effective October 5, 2026
🛡 Meeting people carries risk. Chess Stops is a directory — we list public places where
people play chess. We do not verify, vet, or run background checks on venues, events, or people,
and we are not involved in any meeting you arrange. Always meet in the public location listed,
tell someone where you're going, and trust your instincts. If you're under 18, bring a parent or
guardian. You use Chess Stops at your own risk.
- What Chess Stops is. A directory of public places and events where people play chess,
plus optional free accounts. It is an information service — not an event organizer, venue
operator, or party to any meeting arranged through it.
- No verification. Listings are sourced from public directories and user contributions.
We label freshness honestly ("verified" / "unconfirmed") but do not guarantee that any
listing, person, rating, or credential is accurate, current, safe, or who they claim to be.
- Your conduct. You agree to meet only in the public locations listed, to follow the law,
and not to harass, endanger, or misrepresent yourself to others. We may remove listings or
accounts at our discretion.
- User content. You're responsible for what you post (profile, stops, events). You grant
us a license to display it. Don't post anything illegal, false, or that infringes others.
- No payments through us. Chess Stops does not process payments between users or venues.
Any money changing hands is strictly between those parties.
- Minors. You must be 13 or older to create an account. If you are under 18, a
parent or guardian must review these Terms and should arrange and attend any in-person meeting.
- Assumption of risk & limitation of liability. You use Chess Stops at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury, loss, or harm arising
from meetings, listings, people, venues, or events you find through the service. The service is
provided "as is," without warranties of any kind.
- Indemnity. You agree to hold Chess Stops harmless from claims arising out of your use of
the service or your interactions with others through it.
- Changes & contact. We may update these Terms; continued use means acceptance.
